Goechala Trek

Face to face with Kangchenjunga

10 days / 9 nights Sikkim, Eastern Himalaya Max 12 travellers

The journey

Goechala is the trek Indian trekkers dream about. From the old trading village of Yuksom, the trail climbs through oak and rhododendron forest into the alpine, where the treeline gives way to moraine and the sky fills with one enormous presence: Kangchenjunga, 8,586 metres of it, close enough to watch avalanches fall. We climb to Viewpoint 1 before dawn, watch the first light touch the summit pyramid, and are back at camp for breakfast. Fully supported — cooks, porters, tents, and food that has no business being this good at 4,000 metres.

Fitness required

This is a genuine high-altitude trek: 6–8 hour days, cumulative 65km, summit-day altitude 4,940m. You should be able to jog 5km in under 40 minutes or have prior multi-day trek experience. A pre-trek fitness plan is shared 8 weeks before departure.

Traveller reviews

"Summit day broke me and rebuilt me in the same ten hours. The team's altitude management was meticulous — oximeter checks every evening, honest go/no-go conversations. When Kangchenjunga lit up at sunrise, half the group was crying. Worth every rupee."
